Members of the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses announced a campaign to collect 250,000 diapers for low-income families.
This is the second year AWHONN is leading a nationwide diaper drive. The association is partnering with the National Diaper Bank Network and Huggies, a Kimberly Clark brand of diapers.
The Miami Dolphins, Huggies and local nurses will kick off Diaper Need Awareness Week on Sunday, Sept. 25, with a Fill-a-Truck drive at the Dolphins' first home football game. Another Fill-a-Truck event will be held Oct. 14 at a Los Angeles hospital.
"Nurses are at the frontlines of caring for infants affected by health issues that result from not having enough clean, dry diapers," said AWHONN CEO Lynn Erdman in a news statement. "We're proud that AWHONN nurses, along with Huggies and the National Diaper Bank Network, are making strides to close the diaper gap, improving the lives of families and their babies."
People can report donations to local diaper banks, or donate money for diapers, at AWHONN's Healthy Mom & Baby website, using the address www.DiaperDrive.org. Progress as of Sept. 23: Donations of 55,943 diapers and $768.44, enough money to purchase another 4,608 diapers.
